Have you noticed more composition books, pencils and crayons in the front of stores lately? All those school supplies should be making you feel some kind of way, because the start of the 2014-15 school year is than a month away for most school districts.

To make sure you’re on top of it, we’ve listed area school start dates below. Please check with your school officials (or the school’s website) to get your specific school supply lists and to get information on dress codes.

Speaking of school supplies, mark your calendars for August 1-2, 2014. That is Georgia’s Tax Free Weekend for “Back to School Supplies.” During those two days, you won’t have to pay state sales taxes on things like clothing, books, computers and other school supplies. There are some exceptions, so you need to check out details at http://www.taxrates.com/blog/2014/04/15/georgia-sales-tax-holidays-2014/.

And don’t forget, there’s a new Georgia law that went into effect this year which requires all 7th Graders and new entrants into public schools, grades 8-12, to have new vaccinations before they can register for school. Find out more about vaccinations for all students from the Georgia Department of Public Health at http://dph.georgia.gov/immunization-section.
