Georgia Senate Race

Georgia Gov. Nathan Deal signed legislation Wednesday that would greatly expand where Georgians can legally carry firearms, including in some schools, bars, government buildings and churches, and even airports.

“People who follow the rules can protect themselves and their families from people who don’t follow the rules,” said Deal. “The Second Amendment should never be an afterthought. It should reside at the forefronts of our minds.”

The bill — nicknamed the “guns everywhere bill” — has drawn heavy criticism from gun control advocates and praise from gun rights activists like the National Rifle Association (NRA). Democratic candidate for governor Jason Carter also supported the controversial bill.

The bill takes effect July 1. It also legalizes the use of silencers for hunting, allows school staffers to carry guns in school zones and lets leaders of religious congregations choose whether to allow licensed gun holders inside their buildings.

What do you think about this gun bill? Does it go too far?
