Vogue Netherlands has decided to join in on the blackface trend that’s been prominent in the fashion scene for quite some time. The controversial spread was intended to honor Marc Jacobs and his affinity for Black beauty icons like Grace Jones and Josephine Baker. Honoring Jacobs’ love for Black women’s beauty is well and good, but hiring a White model and painting her Black, then plopping a “nappy” wig on her head doesn’t make the fashion spread ok.

According to Fashionista, The Netherlands typically go for White models. This isn’t much different from what we experience in America. Black models are constantly overlooked and with the prevalence of blackface spreads, you’d think models of color would be in higher demand.
