Celebrity skin secrets have been revealed! Sure, celebs always look like they’re blemish-free, radiant and glowing on the red carpet, but that’s never without the help of a makeup artist. Allure asked top celebrity artists how they help their clients from head to toe.

ADD GLEAMING POWDER

For Beyoncé’s Heat fragrance ad, makeup artist Francesca Tolot “used La Mer Body Moisturizer all over [her] body. On top of that, I brushed on L’Oréal Glam Bronze Powder and smoothed it all in with my hands.”

TREAT YOUR ELBOWS ROUGHLY

For sloughing dead skin off especially rough spots, you might need something with more muscle. “I cut a lemon in half, pour course sea salt on both halves, and grind each into the elbows, heels, and knees,” says Scott Barnes, who used this technique on Jennifer Lopez before the 2008 Oscars.

SHED DEAD SKIN

Makeup pros love Fresh Brown Sugar Body Polish. “It smooths out the skin and leaves it incredibly soft,” says Barnes, whose client Jennifer Lopez “is obsessed with it.” However, a DIY version can be done. Joanna Schlip mixes a cup of sugar and a half cup of olive oil, then rubs it into the Eva Longoria’s damp skin in circular motions before big events.

REMEMBER YOUR FEET

“I have one celebrity client who likes highlighter on the tops of her feet when she’s wearing sandals,” says Jillian Dempsey. “Try a luminizing stick; run it lightly down the shinbones and over the tops of your feet, then rub it in well.” We love Nars The Multiple in Tuomota.

OIL UP

Body oil adds a nice sheen but can be messy. Makeup artist Troy Surratt recommends this instead: Add a few drops of oil to bathwater, soak, then towel off. “It’s a great way to avoid too much slip on the skin with just the right amount of moisturizing benefits.” Or try an oil-infused body balm. “My favorite product for dewy-looking skin is Benefit’s Bathina—it doesn’t transfer to clothes,” Surratt says.
